KATHERINE YANKOVA

My name is Katherine Yankova, and I am a recent transfer student from DVC to UC Berkeley. I was a Psychology major at DVC, and am now pursuing a bachelor's degree in Social Welfare. While at DVC, I was very involved with the Queer Straight Alliance, starting as a member, then Social Media Officer, and then Co-President. I hope to eventually become a therapist and work with the LGBTQ community primarily.

My last semester at DVC was an interesting one, as I'm sure it was for most people. Besides the new challenges of switching to online classes and preparing for transferring, I also was dealing with losing one job and being furloughed from another. It's been a turbulent time, and I am very grateful that scholarships have been able to help me through it. This scholarship will help me out as I begin at UC Berkeley by paying for books, fees, and general living expenses, and I appreciate being chosen for it a lot.
