MIGUEL ANGEL CONTRERAS-OROZCO
Region V
My name is Miguel Angel Contreras-Orozco and growing up I never imagined I would go on to pursue a career in nursing. I grew up in a poorly structured household, which led me into the foster care system. Due to the circumstances I grew up in, I was not given much support throughout my life. Those circumstances pushed me to want a better future for myself, which ultimately encouraged me to become very invested in my education. At the beginning, I did not know what I wanted to do, but I knew I wanted a career where I could help others. A month before my 18th birthday I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, which ultimately led to me losing my right leg. I fought my cancer for a year, going from one hospital to another. The support I received throughout my hospital visits motivated me to pursue a career in nursing. I wanted to help others during their battles and hopefully impact a life or two. I am honored to be part of the EOPS program at College of the Sequoias, it has really given me the support, and resources I could not have established on my own. EOPS has played a huge roll in my educational success. They have always been there to provide guidance with enrollment or advice about my educational decisions. EOPS has been there every step of the way doing all that they can to make my college experience as smooth as possible.
