KENSY HERNANDEZ
Region VIII
Hello. I'm Kensy Hernandez and I was born in Honduras, but I was brought to the United States at the age of three. Growing up my family and I always had financial issues due to our immigration status. I didn't know that I was born in Honduras until I was in 5th grade. When I was in high school and it was time to apply for schools I felt discouraged to apply because I knew that my parents could not afford to pay for my education. There was a part of me that wanted to give up and not continue my education because it would only make things harder. Eventually, I attended Azusa Pacific University and that exact thing happened. I was not able to continue my education there because of financial issues. Once I made the decision to attend Citrus College I was connected with the EOPS Program. It was one of the best things that could have happened to me because through this program I was not only helped financially to pay my books, but the staff was supportive and helped guide me through my journey at Citrus College. Through this program I have received great help and although I am an AB540 student, I know that I can still receive help. This scholarship that I have been awarded is a start. This scholarship will help me pay a part of my education at Cal Poly Pomona and I am truly honored to have been chosen for this scholarship.
