ELIZABETH MONTES

My name is Elizabeth Montes. At the age of 21, I found myself being the single mother to a 1-year-old. When my son was 2, I decided I had to go back to school to give him a better life. I wanted to show him that education is the only way to get ahead in life. It was difficult – juggling motherhood, school, work —but it is not impossible. I have overcome several problems while being in school, some even made me think about quitting. But I realized everything is temporary, and at the end of my journey I will have a career and a chance at better life for myself and my son.

EOPS is a program that helped the student in me succeed. EOPS is one of the best programs that I have been associated with, and I am so thankful I was part of it during my time here at Moreno Valley College. Being in EOPS has showed me that even though there are obstacles, anyone can continue their education and succeed in what they want to be in life.

My future goals are to continue my education, earning a bachelor degree and eventually securing a job in the criminal justice field. I would also like to continue to share my story with other students, letting them know the journey is tough, but not impossible. This scholarship will help my son and me because it is difficult to work while attending school full time, I am extremely grateful for this.
