Loc Nguyen was born in Sai Gon, Vietnam and came to the U.S. four years ago. Loc is a full-time EOPS student at San Diego City College. He decided to attend community college because he wanted a better future. One of the biggest challenges Loc has overcome has been learning English fluently. When Loc first arrived in this country, he worked in restaurants with minimum wages because his English was limited. Loc and his family face many economic hardships inlcuding paying bills and rent. His parents have unstable work and they depend on his siblings for an income. Loc is determined to succeed in community college because he knows it’s the key to his future. Loc appreciates the support he receives from EOPS, including book grants, priority registraton and counseling support. Loc likes that his counselors regularly review his short-term and long-term goals and ensure that he is on track to accomplish them. Loc is an excellent student with a 4.0 GPA. Loc likes to study electric circuits and he plans to become an electrical engineer. He is eager to learn about new technologies and inventions. Loc plans to transfer to UC San Diego to study electrical engineering.
