Embracing Student Diversity

California Community College Extended Opportunity
Association

The EOPS program’s mission is to encourage the enrollment, retention, and transfer of students handicapped by language, social, economic, and educational disadvantages and to facilitate the successful completion of their goals and objectives in college. EOPS offers academic, personal, and career counseling, financial resources, and other support services that go “over and above” the traditional services on college campuses.

The CCCEOPSA is established by members of the 116 California Community Colleges. The primary objective of the CCCEOPSA is to develop and maintain a statewide association for sharing, articulating, and disseminating up-to-date information regarding programs for disadvantaged students in the two-year community colleges and to assist the local EOPS programs.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) program is twofold: to encourage the enrollment, retention, and transfer of students facing language, social, economic, and educational challenges, and to facilitate their successful completion of college goals and objectives. EOPS achieves this through a range of comprehensive services, including academic, personal, and career counseling, as well as financial resources and other support services, all of which surpass traditional offerings found on college campuses.

The California Community Colleges Extended Opportunity Programs and Services Association (CCCEOPSA) is dedicated to serving as a communication hub connecting EOPS staff, students, statutory advisory committees, the Chancellor’s Office, and other relevant groups.

CCCEOPSA advocates for the needs of EOPS programs and students to community college administrators, the Chancellor, and the State Legislature. It also plays a crucial role in implementing statewide policies and programs tailored to the unique needs of California community colleges while actively promoting the development of additional programs on local, state, and national levels to support disadvantaged students in their educational pursuits.

Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) Program

The Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) program was established to help EOPS students who are single parents, receiving cash-aid from CalWORKs or Tribal TANF.

NextUp

NextUp, also known as CAFYES (Cooperating Agencies Foster Youth Educational Support), provides community college students with resources that make a difference. The program offers eligible current and former foster youth support and services that could include help with books and supplies, transportation, tutoring, food and emergency housing.

"The EOPS program provides a vital support system for disadvantaged California community college students by offering academic assistance, counseling, and educational resources to help them succeed despite the obstacles they may face."
